The Center for Development and Empowerment of Women (CDEW) Society celebrated World Environment Day on 5 th June 2019 at Sacred Heart Salesian Sisters Provincial House Bangalore. The celebration commenced with a special thanksgiving prayer conducted by Sr. Rosy Lopez, Directress. During which she invited the participants to be grateful to God Almighty for giving us the wonderful earth with diversities of living and non living things as our inheritance. She quoted the famous quotes of Pope Francis: "We received this world as an inheritance from past generations, but also as a loan from future generations, to whom we will have to return it!” Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home.

Furthermore, she exhorted the participants to plant a tree on this WED as it is the need of the hour and the theme of WED 2019 “Air Pollution" and the slogan is “We can't stop breathing, but we can do something about the quality of air that we breathe”.

She then invited Sr. Monica Thomas, Superior of the provincial house community, Fr. Jince SDB Professor Kristu Jyothi College and Master Sam to plant a sapling in the garden. The invitees planted the sapling with joy. The vibes didn’t stop here; the whole province took measures to commemorate this all important event.
